GUARANA

Botanical Family: Sapindaceae

TRADITIONAL USES
As an aphrodisiac, analgesic, anti-platelet, anti-diarrheal, anti-neuralgic, anti-oxidant, anti-pyretic, debugger, to decrease appetite and premenstrual symptoms, as a diuretic, for the headaches (migraines) and stimulating brain activity, for fatigue, against leucorrhoea, memory enhancement, obesity, like: Physical restorative, heart, nervous and intellectual, as regulator and disinfecting the intestine, muscle relaxant, gastrointestinal disorders and as peripheral vasodilator.

  • As aphrodisiac and physical restorative, heart, nervous and intellectual

Traditional Use: Stimulates sexual appetite, as a tonic or body energizing.
Preparation: Wash and dry the seeds, then grate or pulverize until powder, make a tea and add sugar.
Administration: Oral.
Dosage: Take one cup of cooked, three times a day for fifteen days.
Diet: During treatment don’t use tranquilizing effecting drugs, do not drink alcohol.
Recommendations: Its tonic and aphrodisiac properties are increased when combined with other stimulants. Is prepared and used at the time of use.

  •  Antidiarrheal and gastrointestinal disorders

Traditional Use: Relieves diarrhea and gastrointestinal disorders (due to the action of tannin own).
Preparation: Wash and dry the seeds, then grate or pulverize until powder, place a teaspoon in a bowl containing one litre of water and boil for ten minutes.
Administration: Oral.                                                                                                                                                         Dosage: Take one prepared cup, three times a day for one week.
Diet: During treatment don’t associate with drugs or herbs which are of a calming nature, or any other stimulants like: (ginseng, chuchuhuasi, Cumaceba, huasca cloves, coffee, mate, etc.). Do not drink alcohol.
Recommendations: Overuse can lead to insomnia, anxiety and restlessness or urinary problems, this is similar to coffee, and it is prepared and used at the time of use.

  • For headaches

Traditional Use: Relieves headache (due to cranial vasoconstriction which reduces the blood supply to the brain).                           Preparation: Wash and dry the seeds, then grate or pulverize to a powder, place a teaspoon in a bowl containing one litre of water and boil for ten minutes.                                                                                                                                                  Administration: Oral.                                                                                                                                                      Dosage: Take one cup of the preparation three times a day, for a week.                                                                               Diets: During treatment don’t associate with drugs or herbs which are of a calming nature, or use any other stimulant: (ginseng, chuchuhuasi, Cumaceba, huasca cloves, coffee, mate, etc.). Do not drink alcohol.                                                                         Recommendations: In the cases of allergy do not administer caffeine or other xanthine, and it’s not recommended to patients with severe cardiovascular disorders or minors (heart failure, coronary insufficiency, and arrhythmia), peptic ulcer, epilepsy, insomnia, pregnancy, lactation and children under twelve years. It is prepared and used in the moment of use.

  • For fatigue

Traditional use: Prevents fatigue (the production of lactic acid from the muscles).
Preparation: Wash and dry the seeds, then grate or pulverize until powder, place a teaspoon in a bowl containing one litre of water and boil for ten minutes.
Administration: Oral.
Dosage: Take one cup of the preparation, three times a day for one week.
Diet: During treatment not associate with calming effects of herbal drugs or any other stimulant: (ginseng, chuchuhuasi, Cumaceba, huasca cloves, coffee, mate, etc.). Do not drink alcohol.
Recommendations: Do not administer at night due to its high caffeine content. It is prepared and used at the time of use.
